ARAAC Leaders join FLI's join Artificial Intelligence Existential Safety Community
Associate Professor Peter Vamplew (Federation) and Associate Professor Richard Dazeley (Deakin) were recently added to the Future of Life Institute’s Artificial Intelligence Existential Safety Community (https://futureoflife.org/team/ai-existential-safety-community/).
This honour recognises the importance of their research applying concepts of multiobjective agency to the task of ensuring that advanced AI systems are safe and aligned to human needs and ethical values. The Future of Life Institute is a philanthropic organisation aimed at diminishing risks to the future of humanity.
The AI Existential Safety Community consists of AI researchers keen to ensure that AI remains safe and beneficial even if it eventually supercedes human ability on essentially all tasks. The majority of the community come from elite universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, UC Berkeley and Princeton. Peter and Richard are the first Australians to be admitted to this organisation, and this will open up new opportunities for them to expand on the international impact of their research.
